About the Dexcom G6

Overview:

This article provides an overview of the Dexcom G6, a CGM that is currently supported by Levels.

About the Dexcom G6:

SensorThe Dexcom G6 includes both a sensor and a transmitter that you place on your arm (two pieces total). The transmitter snaps into the sensor.

  • Sensor Life: The Dexcom G6 sensors last for 10 days each. You will receive three sensors per shipment in your Levels kit, providing you with 30 days worth of wearing time total
  • Data Transmission: The Dexcom G6 sensor calculates a glucose value every 5 minutes and transmits that data via Bluetooth to your mobile device in real-time. You'll need to keep the Dexcom G6 app on and open on your phone and within 20 feet of your sensor to receive data.
  • Sensor Data Storage: Your CGM transmitter holds 3 hours of data. If your bluetooth is turned off or you're farther than 20 feet away from your phone for 3+ hours, then you may experience gaps in your glucose data and/or data loss.
  • Calibration: The Dexcom G6 is factory calibrated and does not require calibration. However, it does allow for calibration by using a finger-prick reading to calibrate the sensor. You can view more information on testing Dexcom's accuracy here: How to Test the Accuracy of your Dexcom
  • Size: The Dexcom G6 sensor is oblong in shape and is 4.57 cm (L) x 3.05 cm (W) x 1.52 cm (H)
